    Located in Emerson, New Jersey at the Patrick M. Villano Elementary School, the NOVA Elementary Program utilizes a number of strategies and tools to bring high- interest academic activities to our students. All of our teachers are Highly Qualifed Teachers (HQT). Our highly-trained, experienced staff creates a nurturing and supportive environment in a semi- contained setting.

    NOVA Elementary:

    • Educates students in grades three through six;
    • Prepares students to function successfully in a mainstream school setting;
    • Provides an emotionally safe and secure structured environment;
    • Maintains allow student/staff ratio,and;
    • Offers students mainstream opportunities in a general education setting.

    NOVA Elementary students begin the inclusion process by participating in lunch, recess, art, physical education, Digital Citizenship, music, and Spanish. Students are invited to participate in the school band and chorus, to audition for school plays, and to participate in mainstream activities and field trips.

    All students who are academically and socially ready may be placed in academic mainstream classes with support. Sixth- grade students are welcome to participate in sixth-grade activities, field trips, and dances.

A Message from the Principal

  • It is with great enthusiasm that I welcome students, staff and families to the start of the 2019-2020 school year.  The start of a new school year is always a time to envision the many opportunities our students will experience in order to enhance their social, emotional and academic growth.  These opportunities may include mainstreaming, securing an internship, or utilizing updated technology to help meet academic goals.  The main focus is to provide students with the skills and knowledge needed to navigate life after graduation.  For that reason, my staff members work closely with students, families and local districts to assure that transition goals are implemented and achieved.  It is evident, form success stories I have witnessed, that exceptional work is being done in BCSS programs.  I plan to support that work with my experience as we look forward to continued growth.

    Thank you for allowing me to work with your children.  I look forward to meeting and collaborating with you throughout the school year.
