Welcome to Brownstone

  • The BCSS Emotional & Behavioral Disabilities programs serve students ages three to twenty-one with behavioral, emotional, and/or learning disabilities. The Brownstone School specifically supports students in grades K–8, offering a balanced curriculum that includes academics, enrichment opportunities, and emotional support. Our mission is to help students develop self-regulation skills through a comprehensive system of highly structured learning environments. These settings are designed to ensure that students fully benefit from instruction while learning to make appropriate decisions and solve problems effectively through our schoolwide behavior program.

With consistent support, students acquire the skills necessary to become successful 21st-century learners, self-motivated individuals who excel by prioritizing critical thinking, creativity, collaboration, and adaptability over rote memorization. Through the integration of technology, students learn to solve complex problems, communicate effectively, and engage in lifelong learning, ultimately becoming productive and contributing members of society.

A Message from the Principal

  • As principal of the Brownstone School, it is my pleasure to welcome everyone back for another fun filled year of learning. Learning is a process of gaining new knowledge, understanding, developing skills and behaviors, values, attitudes, and preferences. It is our goal here at Brownstone to inspire positive attributes to our students to make them 21 Century Learners and contributors to society.

The overwhelming use of social media has created a new generation of learners. Teachers and staff need to create an environment where children feel safe and are recognized for their abilities. Our students face many challenges and providing them with the skills where they care for each other and strive to build positive relationships that promote academic and social growth is our goal. Using meaningful lessons that engage the students in learning and our schoolwide behavior programs are both instrumental in maintaining the students on task.

It is our mission to help every child succeed, feel connected to the learning, and make our school a place where every child belongs. We will continue to focus on our instructional practices and continue to utilize research-based strategies that promote growth and student achievement.

Let us have another great year at Brownstone!

    Sincerely,

    David Perez, Ed. D

    Principal
