Welcome to Gateway High School

  • Gateway High School is a departmentalized secondary alternative program that is based on National Reform models and School-To-Career initiatives. The program is designed to educate students with learning and behavioral disabilities with a need for improved coping and/or social skills. Students receive Individualized Education Plan (IEP)-driven and as-needed counseling. Character education is also incorporated into the schedule. The students typically can benefit from smaller classes and more individualized attention academically. Students benefit from hands-on and real life learning as well as community-based instruction.

A Message from the Principal

  • Welcome to the 2024-2025 school year. We are excited to announce that this school year we have partnered with Bergen County Technical Schools. This new partnership enables Gateway students to participate in classes at Bergen County Technical School in Paramus. For the current school year, our students will be working with the Computer Networking and Telecommunications program. In addition to the vocational training opportunities at Bergen County Technical School, we also offer our students exposure to the field of culinary arts. This is done through hands on activities that take place in our kitchen at the BCSS Garfield House

Job Coaching services continue to be offered at the Gateway High School Program. Our juniors are provided with the opportunity to sample a variety of jobs. As seniors, students are eligible to participate in an internship. For our students whose transition goals include two or four year colleges, we provide services through our BCSS Post-Secondary Counselor. The Counselor can help explore a variety of colleges/trade schools and assist in the application process.

In addition to hands on vocational training, Gateway High School also offers students the ability to participate in all high school courses that meet the NJDOE’s graduation requirements. NJDOE state testing is administered at the Gateway High School Program. We also administer the Accuplacer test for students who may need this option as a graduation pathway.

In order to address our students’ social, emotional and behavioral needs, we provide both individual and group counseling. We also implement a school wide behavior management system that focuses on rewards and positive reinforcement.

We look forward to working with families and local districts in order to provide a successful academic experience for all our students.
