Gateway High School is a departmentalized secondary alternative program that is based on National Reform models and School-To-Career initiatives. The program is designed to educate students with learning and behavioral disabilities with a need for improved coping and/or social skills. Students receive Individualized Education Plan (IEP)-driven and as-needed counseling. Character education is also incorporated into the schedule. The students typically can benefit from smaller classes and more individualized attention academically. Students benefit from hands-on and real life learning as well as community-based instruction.

Welcome to the 2025–2026 School Year!

We are excited to begin a new school year at Gateway High School, filled with opportunities for growth, exploration, and success. We are pleased to continue our partnership with Bergen County Technical Schools, which offers our students valuable access to vocational training. This year, Gateway students will participate in the Computer Networking and Telecommunications program at the Bergen County Technical School campus in Paramus.

In addition to this technical training, students also gain exposure to culinary arts through engaging, hands-on experiences in our kitchen at the BCSS Garfield House.

Our job coaching services remain an essential part of our program. Juniors have the opportunity to explore a variety of job settings, while seniors can participate in internships that align with their individual interests and career goals.

For students interested in pursuing post-secondary education, our BCSS Post-Secondary Counselor is available to guide them through exploring two- and four-year colleges, trade schools, and the application process.

Alongside vocational training, Gateway High School continues to provide a full range of academic courses that meet the New Jersey Department of Education (NJDOE) graduation requirements. NJDOE state assessments are administered on-site, and for students seeking alternative graduation pathways, we also offer the Accuplacer test.
