Welcome to Stepping Stones

  • Students Stepping Stones is currently funded by the Division of Developmental Disabilities and  is operated by the Bergen County Special Services School District. The Program is transitioning to the Fee for Services System.  The Stepping Stones Program has become an approved  DDD/Medicaid Provider for the Supports Program, and offers day habilitation, community inclusion and pre-vocational services.

Stepping Stones was designed specifically for individuals who benefit from a small environment providing significant supports in communication, foundational skills, and adaptive behavior. Program emphasis is on following daily routines, building attention to tasks, and developing/maintaining positive behavior in the community and with peers.

Instruction and training is introduced and reinforced in structured, sequential steps. Activities may be group oriented or individually based. While engaged in activities and individualized objectives, staff members assist adults in learning new skills and engaging with others. The team works closely with individuals and their family members in collaborating on meaningful plans of care each year. This program features a high level of support and makes modifications as needed because of a 1:2 or 1:3 staff to client ratio.

A Message from the Coordinator of Adult Services

  • Welcome to the Stepping Stones Program.

One of the program's many attributes is the experienced staff who work with adults on a daily basis. Staff support individuals on the autism spectrum to perform daily tasks, learn new skills, participate in the community and adapt to changing circumstances. We take a hierarchical approach to behaviors, working to bring about positive change in a safe and nurturing milieu. Programmatically individuals are guided to demonstrate more self directed behavior, increase adaptive skills, increase interactions and participate in the community.

We invite you to visit our program.
