Visions Community Based Instruction

A group of students from the Visions @ Emerson program participated in a CBI trip to Joann Fabrics in Paramus NJ.  We utilized this trip to support academics in the natural community setting. The students involved are members of the “Fashion Club” offered through Emerson Junior Senior High School.  One projected activity for the club includes designing and sewing décor, an outfit, and/or costume.  The students learned the layout of the store, compared and priced out different types of materials, and used a catalogue to pick put and locate sewing patterns.  Math and money calculations, material planning, and communication in the community were all addressed.  We are looking forward to seeing the student’s creativity come to life.
