Empowering Growth Through Skill Development, Independence, and Community Inclusion
The Careers Through Technology (CTT) Program of Bergen County Special Services is a DDD/Medicaid-approved day habilitation and training initiative designed to empower individuals interested and committed to utilizing technology to share information, connect with others, and build pathways to employment. As New Jersey is an Employment First state, BCSS recognizes that day habilitation centers play a vital role in fostering independence, community inclusion, and meaningful employment.
Our program is structured around three progressive levels of instruction, allowing individuals to build on their strengths and apply what they learn in real-world settings. Clients are supported in an approximate staff-to-client ratio of 1:5.
Foundational Skills - Building Readiness
Participants develop the ability to learn and make mature choices, follow a daily schedule, perform meaningful tasks, and strengthen social skills and emotional intelligence through improved communication, problem-solving, coping, and self-advocacy.
Intermediate Skills - Expanding Abilities
Individuals work toward greater independence and improved quality of life by enhancing daily living skills, personal care skills, and technological fluency. This includes operating devices safely, applying technology to communication and presentations, and fostering self-confidence through personal development.
Advanced Skills - Applying Learning in the Community
Participants generalize their skills in real-world settings through community immersion, volunteer opportunities, and employment readiness exploration. They are supported to interact effectively with community members, navigate safely, and perform meaningful activities to apply learned concepts in the community.
