Empowering Growth Through Skill Development, Independence, and Community Inclusion
The BCSS Wood-Ridge Adult Training Center (ATC) is a DDD and Medicaid-approved program offering day habilitation services for adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities (I/DD). At the Wood-Ridge ATC, supporting the whole person in a choice-oriented manner guides curricular development. Our program is rooted in the understanding that core skills are essential for individuals to learn, grow, feel fulfilled, and contribute meaningfully to the world around them. Guided by New Jersey's employment-first mission, our team fosters increased independence, community integration, and personal achievement through a structured, multi-tiered approach to learning.
Our program is structured around three progressive levels of instruction, allowing individuals to build on their strengths and apply what they learn in real-world settings. Clients are supported in an approximate staff-to-client ratio of 1:6.
Foundational Skill Development - Participants build the essential skills necessary to follow a structured daily schedule, perform meaningful tasks, and make mature, independent choices.
- Basic decision-making and problem-solving
- Social skill development and emotional intelligence
- Self-help and daily living routines
- Personal care and hygiene
Intermediate Skill Acquisition - Gaining independence, individuals work toward greater autonomy through targeted instruction to support increased confidence, self-esteem, and the ability to participate more actively in everyday life.
- Independent living and self-care skill development
- Technology used for communication, presentation, and problem-solving
- Personal development and self-advocacy
- Volunteer opportunities
- Public transportation training
- Social interaction in community environments
- Participation in civic, recreational, or employment-preparatory activities
Each phase is person-centered and outcomes-based, ensuring every individual moves forward at their own pace while receiving the support and encouragement they need to thrive. At BCSS, we are committed to delivering high-quality, inclusive programming that prepares adults to become more confident, capable, and valued members of their community.
