Services to Non-Public Schools

New Jersey's Chapter 192 and Chapter 193 programs are provided to eligible students enrolled full-time in non-public elementary and secondary schools in New Jersey. Chapter 192 programs provide non-public students with auxiliary services such as compensatory education, English as a second language, and home instruction. Chapter 193 programs provide non-public school students with remedial services such as evaluation and determination of eligibility for special education and related services, supplementary instruction, and speech-language services.
- Chapter 192 and Chapter 193 programs are provided to eligible students who are residents of New Jersey and are enrolled full-time in nonpublic elementary and secondary schools in Bergen County.
- Chapter 192 provides the following services: Compensatory Education, English as a Second Language and Home Instruction.
- Chapter 193 programs include: Evaluation and Determination of Eligibility for special education and related services, Supplementary Instruction (SI), and Speech-Language services.
Students in non-public schools receive compensatory education, supplemental instruction, English as a Second Language, and speech-language services from certified teachers and therapists employed by the Bergen County Special Services School District. Specialized Services are provided to eligible students both through 192/193 and Individuals with Disabilities Act (IDEA) statutes.
