Welcome to the Washington School Program at Emerson
-
The Washington School Program at Emerson is located in the Patrick Villano Elementary School in Emerson, New Jersey. The program utilizes individualized Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) programming for each learner across curricular domains. Data-based methodologies are provided from baseline conditions through fluency and generalization stages of learning.
This inclusion program affords students the opportunity to mainstream into classes with their non-disabled peers, as well as provides self-contained classes. Parents receive an Annual Review and Progress Reports, which are issued in January, March, and June. Parent/Teacher conferences are held in November. Staff members meet on a case-by-case basis to determine the eligibility status of each student to participate in state-mandated testing. Currently, all students in this program participate in Alternate Proficiency Assessment (APA) testing conducted from October through March.
A student auditing/tracking system is in place to facilitate a student's transition from one classroom to another. There are various considerations taken into account that might result in a student auditing into another class. The student's parental input, academic/behavioral progress, social/peer interaction needs, concerns regarding communication/language models, etc., are just a few of the considerations that might lead to a student auditing. A student's progress within the new classroom setting is then tracked and the team/parents/administrator meet to review the efficacy of the student's placement in the new class.
