The Union Street School for the Deaf (Click here to watch video)

The Elementary Program at Union Street School for the Deaf and Hard of Hearing is part of the Communication Skills Continuum, the largest and most comprehensive in New Jersey. Children from preschool to grade four are educated through a total communication approach. This approach uses sign language as well as listening and spoken language. Our focus is educating and supporting the whole child by providing a team of professionals who specialize in hearing loss including teachers of the deaf and hard of hearing, educational interpreters, speech language specialists, educational audiologists, physical therapists and occupational therapists. Our program incorporates language growth, advocacy skills and social emotional development within the curriculum. Union Street School is located in Hackensack and aligns with the curriculum and calendar of the Hackensack Public School System. Through our collaborative partnership with Hackensack Public Schools students have inclusion opportunities at Jackson Avenue School and Hackensack Middle School.
