A Message from the Principal
Welcome to the 2023-2024 School Year!!
It is my pleasure to welcome you to the VISIONS Integrated Elementary Program located in the barrier-free Ridge Ranch Elementary School in Paramus. Our innovative program for students with multiple disabilities affords children in grades Kindergarten through fourth, the opportunity to learn in an inclusive environment. Alongside their grade-level peers, students receive the intensive instructional adaptations, assistive technology, augmentative communication, and environmental supports they need to ensure academic success in a typical school setting. Our ultimate goal is for each student to work to his/her potential, while still feeling part of a school community.
Our curriculum is aligned to the grade-level New Jersey Student Learning Standards. Instruction is provided by highly-trained and experienced staff, who work collaboratively with the general education faculty to ensure an optimum educational program for each and every student. In addition to academic subjects, students receive speech, occupational, and physical therapies, as dictated by the IEP. Our students are provided with all the supports needed so that their every-day school experiences allow them to be full members of our school community. Please contact us for additional information.
Headlines and Features
Our students are enjoying a school year filled with learning, social opportunities, and special activities.
Our Parkway Elementary friends continue working on their academic subjects, while participating in mainstream classes and special fall events. They are so proud of themselves, and truly enjoy every aspect of their school day!
It is truly remarkable to see how much our students are growing and learning this year. In spite of the educational challenges faced by all, our students are thriving in all academic, therapeutic, and social areas. Our wonderful staff makes sure that all instructional practices and therapeutic interventions are individualized to meet the needs of all learners, and the students just love being part of our classroom and the Paramus schools environment. We are so very proud to be a part of this educational experience!
Our "summer travels" took us to Australia this year. The students created their own "passports", which allowed them to learn all about the LAND DOWN UNDER. Projects included learning and writing about this cool continent, making boomerangs, creating a coral reef, duplicating Australian aboriginal art, and much more... we had an awesome time learning and sharing!!
Our students and staff are so excited to be back in school! As part of our re-entry plan, students will continue to receive academic instruction and therapies, both in school and at home, five days a week. It was so wonderful seeing the students' smiles as they entered our classroom door and they were able to see their friends and teachers smiling back at them!
No matter what challenges we may need to face this school year, our staff is committed to making the students' educational year a positive one, filled with new goals and wonderful possibilities. We are happy to share our journey with you through these pages!
The Visions program uses a variety of assistive technology every day. We use an interactive curriculum on the Smartboard, which encourages students to participate in a fun and rewarding way. Students have access to laptop computers, adaptive keyboards, iPads, joysticks and a variety of other helpful educational tools.
The students attend art, library, music, physical education and character education in their general education classrooms. The students also participate in any special event happening at their individual grade level such as a field trip or special program as well as school wide assemblies. Each month the students participate in the Parkway Pals program.
