Welcome to Washington Elementary Program

  • Child The Washington Elementary Program is located at the Rocco Montesano Campus at 355 East Ridgewood Avenue in Paramus. Students range in age from three to fourteen. Learners attending this program are provided with highly individualized instructional formats, based upon the principles of applied behavior analysis. Data-based methodologies are provided from baseline conditions through fluency and generalization stages of learning. Students placed in preschool and elementary classes at Washington South have the option of transitioning to the Emerson satellite site which provides inclusion opportunities, before returning to their home districts. The Washington Program offers its students an extended year program and after-school activities. Support services include Occupational, Physical, and Speech Therapy, educational technologies, and augmentative communication assessment.

Students at all Autism Continuum programs participate in Alternative Proficiency Assessment (APA) testing conducted from October through March. Parents receive an Annual Review and Progress Reports, which are issued in January, March, and June. Parent/Teacher conferences are held in November.

A student auditing/tracking system is in place to facilitate a student's transition from one classroom to another. There are various considerations taken into account that might result in a student auditing another class. The student's parental input, academic/behavioral progress, social/peer interaction needs, concerns regarding communication/language models, etc., are just a few of the considerations that might lead to a student auditing. A student's progress within the new classroom setting is then tracked and the team/parents/administrator meet to review the efficacy of the student's placement in the new class.
