Students who wish to audition for a BCA instrumental ensemble must first qualify through an audition. Audition materials are below - simply scroll down to find your instrument. Please refer to our school's Audition Policy for details. You can read the school policy by going back one page. Note: there is no piano/keyboard audition, as this instrument is not typically part of concert band or orchestra at this level. However, when a pianist is needed, an email is sent to all students with details.

For incoming students (entering 9th grade after summer). Sign up for an audition (see below). Recently accepted students receive details during Accepted Students Night (April), Induction Ceremony, and PPO Picnic (May). Auditions take place in the spring when students are in good playing form before summer vacation. It is also at this time that you may request a seat for the first trimester, as scheduling for Concert Band and Orchestra takes place in June.

    For the class of 2029:

    Wednesday, June 4, 2025, between 4:30 and 6:00pm

    or

    Monday, June 9, 2025, between 4:30 and 6:00pm

For current BCA students during the regular school year.
Students who are auditioning for the first time on an instrument should make an appointment with the respective teacher. This can be done anytime during the school year, based upon teacher availability. Qualified students who wish to re-audition to improve their score may only do so in June; simply reach out and make an appointment with the corresponding teacher: Mr. Isecke (band instruments) or Mr Lemma (orchestra instruments and plucked strings).

Audition Procedure: First, students will perform a scale. The scale must be the scale indicated below for the instrument and performed from memory. Percussionists perform memorized snare drum rudiments instead of scales.
Second, students must perform the solo indicated below for their instrument. The solo does not have to be memorized. Finally, the audition does not register a student for a music course, it merely qualifies them to request a course. Once qualified, students may request a course during the music registration/request period for each trimester. This is done online during the registration period: www.bergen.org/music (sidebar: Music Registration)
