Do Something Club
The Do Something Club is a club meant to provide an opportunity for students to take action and make a difference in the community on causes they care about. Do Something is a non-profit, national organization that impels young people to take an active interest in social issues and aids them in taking action through nationwide campaigns. The BCA Do Something Club participates in the national campaigns created by the national Do Something Club organization but also runs campaigns students have undertaken such as Breast Cancer Awareness Month, the Red Cross Blood Drive and the Bergen Science Challenge. Members of the club will enjoy community service activities while making friendships that span academies and grades and enjoy being part of a national organization promoting youth leadership.
Entrepreneurial Science Project
This is an opportunity to participate in a new and exciting project involving research and development for a virtual biotech company. In collaboration with the New Jersey Economic Development Authority, Academy students will create a biotechnology start-up company, learning how to brainstorm product ideas, develop the product, manufacture the product according to federal regulations, secure financing, perform a clinical trial, and bring the product to market. Following this, students will have the opportunity to perform real background research and development on a potential product for a virtual biotech company.
Health Occupations Students of America (HOSA)
HOSA is a nation-wide, student-run organization aimed at promoting the understanding of health care professions primarily through regional, state, and national competitions.
Mini-Medical School
The goal of the Mini-Medical School Project (MMSP) is to bring BCA students together with those who can provide guidance regarding a career path resulting in an MD degree. Each week a visiting instructor will describe their unique pathway from high school to their life as a practicing physician. In addition, they will teach an anatomy and physiology lesson that will enable members to understand the final discussion of an interesting clinical challenge.
