Bergen County Institutes for Science and Technology
@ Northern Valley Regional HS InformationThe Institute for Interactive Design Technology and the Institute for Sports Medicine and Exercise Science, located on both campuses of the Northern Valley Regional High School District, provide Bergen County students with the opportunity to participate in a rigorous, tuition-free Career and Technical Education (CTE) program while also enjoying a comprehensive high school experience that includes honors and Advanced Placement courses, athletics, and extracurricular activities. Although CTE courses are not weighted on the high school transcript, this should not be viewed as a disadvantage in the college admissions process. Most colleges and universities recalculate applicants' GPAs using their own methodology, often removing local weighting systems to evaluate students on a consistent and equitable basis. More importantly, many of our CTE courses offer dual-enrollment opportunities through partner colleges and universities, allowing students to earn college credit while still in high school. These college-level experiences, combined with specialized technical skills, industry-focused coursework, and a Bergen County Technical Schools diploma, often provide a meaningful distinction on a student's college application that extends well beyond a weighted GPA.

The Institute for Interactive Design Technology
The Institutes for Interactive Design Technology - Are you interested in designing apps, games, websites, or digital experiences people love to use? The Institute for Interactive Design Technology gives students a chance to explore one of today’s fastest- growing and most in-demand fields. UX (User Experience) and UI (User Interface) design are behind the apps that we use every day-from social media to gaming and streaming. UX/UI design inspires consumers to want to engage with a digital product.
In this program, you will learn to think like a creator, innovator, and entrepreneur. You’ll explore how design solves real-world problems, influences behaviors, and brings ideas to life. From analyzing your favorite movies, games, and apps to understanding how digital experiences are built, you will be able to experience the UX/UI design in action. Students will be introduced to a variety of technology hardware and software and get hands-on experience with cutting-edge tools and technology, including app design, virtual reality, and 3D modeling, while developing your own creative projects. Students can also earn college credit through two dual enrollment courses with Fairleigh Dickinson University during their 10th and 11th grade years.
This four-year program offered is ideal for students who are creative, driven and eager to challenge themselves and who are interested in pursuing future studies or careers in technology and design.
The Institute for Sports Medicine & Exercise Science
The Institute for Sports Medicine & Exercise Science
This program is designed for students who are interested in the science behind sports, fitness and human performance. This rigorous course of study challenges students to explore the scientific principles that drive physical performance while developing the analytical and problem-solving skills that are essential in healthcare and sports-related fields. These courses include anatomy and physiology, biomechanics, sports psychology, athletic training, and nutrition.
Students learn through hands-on experiences in both laboratory and real-world environments, exploring how the body responds to exercise, training and recovery. Projects will include designing stretching regimens, designing diets and nutrition plans for athletes. Students will examine the relationship between heart rate, respiration rate, and exercise and will become familiar with examining the neuromuscular function and biomechanics and how it affects the athlete’s overall performance. Students could also earn college credit through three dual enrollment courses with William Paterson University during their 10th, 11th and 12th grade years.
With a challenging curriculum, this program is ideal for students who are driven, curious and prepared to work in a demanding academic environment with an interest in careers in sports medicine or healthcare.
