Mrs. Elizabeth Focarelli began working for Bergen County Special Services in 1986 as an Educational Interpreter in the Secondary Hearing Impaired Program (SHIP) in Midland Park program. She spent over 14 years interpreting for SHIP students in both Midland Park and for students who participated in the shared time program offered by Bergen County Technical Schools. In 2007 Mrs. Focerelli moved to the Union Street School where she also did interpreting for mainstream opportunities in the Hackensack Public Schools. In 2017 she returned to the SHIP Midland Park program helping transition students who utilize sign language as their main mode of communication back into Midland Park High School. Her teamwork and support of the students and staff help make this transition a positive one for so many.
During Mrs. Focarelli’s tenure with the district, her impact on the lives of students with hearing loss through her advocacy, focus and dedication is immeasurable. She looks forward to retirement so she can spend more time with her grandchildren and hopes to travel to Italy and the Grand Canyon with her husband.
The Bergen County Special Services School District and Board of Education would like to thank Mrs. Focarelli for her years of dedication and wish her a long, happy and healthy retirement.
