Ms. Bernice Bonilla began her career with the Bergen County Special Services School District in 1999 as a Communication Access Real-time Translation provider (CART). In her role as a CART provider she utilizes a court reporting stenography machine, a computer and software to display everything that is being said, word for word to students who are deaf and hard of hearing. Ms. Bonilla’s role is an important one for deaf and hard of hearing students to have access to material in mainstream classes that is not easily audible. She was an integral part of developing and creating the program that exist today as a team of 5 CART reporters.
Ms. Bonilla’s dedication to the district and students is evident daily in her hard work and advocacy for students. She is always quick to volunteer with program needs, demonstrates flexibility for students and staff, embraces her work and is always positive and enthusiastic.
Ms. Bonilla looks forward to retirement since she plans to drive across country in a Winnebago with her husband.
The Bergen County Special Services School District and Board of Education would like to thank Ms. Bonilla for her years of dedication and wish her a long, happy and healthy retirement.
